Saunas have long been popular in Finland, their country of origin. Over the centuries, they’ve made their way across the globe and found popularity in many countries. Though the United States has been a bit slower to adopt the tradition of the sauna, it’s certainly catching on at this point.

People who are interested in saunas have ample options to choose from. They include conventional steam versions as well as dry saunas. On top of that, numerous sizes, shapes, and designs are on the market to meet an array of unique needs. Don’t hesitate to read pros and cons of each before making a final decision.

Taking a Closer Look at Infrared Saunas

Most types of saunas offer their own benefits. Having said that, infrared models stand out for several reasons. These aren’t really considered to be traditional saunas because they produce dry heat as opposed to steam. That doesn’t mean they’re less effective, though.

Traditional steam heat is one of the reasons Americans have been slow to bring saunas into their routines. Many people find it to be too hot and uncomfortable for their tastes. At the same time, quite a few don’t enjoy the dry heat generated by some other types of saunas.

Infrared saunas are a bit different. They don’t get as hot as some of their counterparts. They generally reach temperatures between 120 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit. Other dry models can sustain temperatures of up to 200 degrees. Some wet saunas don’t get quite that hot, but they feel hotter because of the humidity they generate. Because of all that, many people find infrared models to be more pleasant.

Infrared saunas are a bit different, especially when compared to other dry models or wet saunas. They don’t get as hot as some of their counterparts, typically reaching temperatures between 120 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit. However, if you’re looking for an outdoor infrared sauna for sale, you’ll find that they offer a pleasant and comfortable sauna experience. While other saunas can sustain temperatures of up to 200 degrees, the infrared models maintain a more moderate heat level. This makes them more enjoyable for many individuals, as they provide a soothing and relaxing experience without excessive heat.

Are Infrared Saunas Beneficial for Health?

It’s no secret that the right sauna experience can be incredibly soothing and relaxing. That, alone, gives users improved states of mind by driving away fatigue, irritability, depression, and other problems. Infrared saunas can potentially provide a long list of additional benefits, too.

  • Lower Blood Pressure. Recent reports show that almost half of adults in America live with high blood pressure. It’s a potentially dangerous condition that can lead to stroke, heart attack, kidney damage, and an increased risk of developing dementia, among other problems. Saunas may help lower blood pressure by dilating blood vessels and improving circulation.
  • Less Joint and Muscle Pain. Infrared saunas may be more effective at alleviating joint and muscle pain as well. Our bodies absorb infrared more readily than other types of heat, so it can penetrate deeper into the muscles and joints. Many people who suffer from both temporary and chronic pain find relief through infrared saunas.
  • More Restful Sleep. Many people have found that snuggling into a warm blanket makes them relaxed and sleepy. Infrared saunas are even more effective at inducing intense relaxation and, by extension, more restful sleep. Getting a good night’s sleep can offer numerous mental and medical benefits.

Those are some of the most noteworthy and consistently reported benefits of saunas. While infrared is a type of radiation, it’s completely harmless to people. Keep in mind, though, that saunas aren’t the right solution for everyone. While they’re generally safe, people who suffer from certain medical conditions should avoid saunas due to the potential risks involved with high temperatures, elevated heart rates, and other possible effects.

Bringing Infrared Technology into Your Routine

Although all saunas offer health benefits, many experts consider infrared models to be the most effective. Numerous Americans also find them more comfortable than other options. As such, they’ve become leading alternatives for those who are interested in bringing saunas into their lives.
