The largest-selling bikes in India happen to come from the entry-level commuter class motorcycle segment, because of the affordable price tag, low maintenance costs and impressive fuel-efficiency figures. While scooters may be ruling the roost in terms of sales, these motorcycles meant for the mass market continue to contribute a fair share to two-wheeler sales in India. Every manufacturer like Bajaj Auto, Hero MotoCorp and TVS Motor Company produce commuter-friendly bikes at competitive prices. We shortlist bikes you can purchase if you’re on a tight budget.

1) Honda Dream Yuga

Price: ₹ 56,535

The Dream Yuga was first revealed at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo. The bike sports a very minimalist styling and is sold in five colours. The bike looks identical to the Honda Shine and comes with features like a self-starter, full chain cover, alloy wheels, long seat and tubeless tyres. Its direct competition includes the Bajaj Discover, Hero Splendor Pro, Passion Pro and Yamaha YBR. The Dream Yuga is also sold in a limited edition variant that offers dual tone colours on the bike along with new decals on the front cowl and fender, a 3D Honda badge, chrome finish on the exhaust and body-coloured rear view mirrors.

2) Bajaj Platina 110

Bajaj Platina 110
Price: ₹ 50,899

The Platina 110 comes with Combi-Braking System and is powered by the Discover 110’s 115.5cc, air-cooled DTS-i engine that produces 8bhp and 9.81Nm of torque, paired to a 4-speed transmission. The Platina 110 is longer and taller as well. It has a fuel tank capacity of 11 litres. As far as the brakes are concerned, it gets drums at both ends, while a front disc is offered as an option. At the rear, it gets Nitrox suspension. In terms of the design, the bike looks the same, but gets new decals that look similar to the ones seen on the Discover. The Platina 110 is sold alongside the current Platina as a premium option.

3) Hero Passion Pro 110

Bajaj Platina 110
Price: ₹ 65,740

Hero‘s Passion 110 plays a significant role in helping Hero rule the 110cc segment where it has more than 75 percent of market share. The Passion has sold over 15.7 million units, and has always been a rather smart-looking proposition. The bike continues to carry the same theme. It features a digital-analogue instrument cluster and a side stand indicator unlike what the previous model offered. It also gets Hero’s i3S’ Idle Stop Start System tech which helps deliver better fuel economy. It is sold in five colours: heavy grey metallic, frost blue metallic, sports red, force silver and black monotone.

4) TVS Victor

The TVS Victor comes equipped with drum brakes, while there is also a variant that offers a disc brake. The original Victor was first introduced in 2002, but looks completely different now to keep up with the modern times. Power comes from a single-cylinder, air-cooled 106.7cc engine that produces 8.4bhp and 8.50Nm of torque, paired to a 4-speed gearbox.
