Why Your Netgear Extender Keeps Rebooting?

Here are the most common reasons that cause your extender to reboot:

  • An outdated firmware of your Netgear extender.
  • Your extender might not be receiving a fluctuation-free power supply.
  • Chances are that your extender might be placed at the wrong location.

Now that you are aware of the reasons why your Netgear extender keeps rebooting. Let’s discuss the troubleshooting tips to fix this issue.

Fixed: My Netgear Extender Keeps Rebooting

Basic Troubleshooting Tips

Follow these basic troubleshooting tips that may help in resolving the issue:

  1. Check the Power Outlet

Make sure that you have connected your extender to a working wall socket. For this, you can check the status of the Power LED on your extender. If it does not stabilize, plug your extender into another wall socket and check if the issue resolves.

To prevent your Netgear extender from power outages, use a UPS.

  1. Prevent Overheating of Your Extender

Sometimes, the extender gets overheated due to its excessive usage. Another reason behind overheating of the extender is that you might have placed it in a closed area. Therefore, it is recommended to place the extender in a ventilated area.

  1. Relocate Your Extender

If you have placed your extender at too much distance from the router, it will become difficult for both devices to establish contact. As a result, your extender will keep rebooting. Therefore, relocate your extender and refer to the following points while doing so:

  • Place your extender and router nearby each other.
  • Don’t place your extender close to any reflexive objects like mirrors and fish tanks.
  • Keep devices like microwave ovens, refrigerators, Bluetooth speakers, baby monitors, etc. at a distance from the extender.

If the basic troubleshooting tips fail to resolve the issue for you, then move to the advanced troubleshooting tips mentioned below:

Advanced Troubleshooting Tips

  1. Update the Firmware

If your extender still keeps rebooting, then you might be running it on an outdated firmware. An outdated firmware prevents the Netgear extender to function properly. Therefore, update the firmware of your extender to its latest version as soon as possible.

You can update the firmware of your extender either by accessing the 192.168.1.250 default IP or via the Netgear Nighthawk app.

  1. Reset and Reconfigure

If updating the firmware is unable to fix the issue, then it is time to restore your extender to factory default settings.
