In 2020, non-invasive aesthetic treatments reached an estimated value of $4.6 billion. What’s more, experts project this specific market to grow to a staggering $8.45 billion this 2021.

That almost two-fold increase may be due to how more folks now want to take better care of themselves. For starters, a person’s appearance can have a massive impact on self-esteem. Self-esteem, in turn, is a key factor influencing one’s overall quality of life.

So, if you’d like a makeover yourself, go for one or more of today’s top non-surgical cosmetic procedures. We rounded up the most popular of these treatments below, so be sure to read on.

Botulinum Toxin Injections

On a global scale, the market value of botulinum toxin (BoNT) alone reached an estimated $4.83 billion in 2019. Experts project this to grow further and become a $7.71 billion sector by 2027. This makes BoNT injections among the world’s most common non-surgical procedures.

One reason behind botulinum toxin’s widespread use is its medically approved uses. In fact, one of its earliest uses (back in the 1960s) was as a treatment for strabismus (crossed-eyes). It also helps treat blepharospasm and spasticity associated with strokes and nerve disorders.

BoNT works on those conditions and many others due to its paralyzing effects. Now, that may sound scary, but medical experts use only the type A strain of the toxin and in tiny doses, too. This allows them to tame the substance so that it only causes temporary relaxing effects.

It’s also because of those effects that BoNT injections can help reduce skin aging signs. These include smoothening out frown lines, crow’s feet, and wrinkles. It can even help minimize excessive sweating not only in the face but in the armpits, too.

Keep in mind that not all BoNT injections are Botox, although Botox is the original. Other brand-name BoNT injections include Dysport, Jeuveau, and Xeomin.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers, like Botox, are injectable formulations consisting of minerals and compounds. However, most of these products feature hyaluronic acid (HA) as their primary ingredient. HA, in turn, is a thick, gooey compound naturally produced by the body.

Most of the body’s HA is in the connective tissues, with about half of the body’s supplies being in the skin alone. It is, after all, the main component of the skin’s structure. It’s responsible for giving the skin its plump and hydrated appearance.

Unfortunately, the natural aging process makes the body produces less and less HA. Exposure to the sun’s UV rays, tobacco smoke, and pollution also decreases its supplies on the skin.

Because of HA’s roles, not having enough of it can result in skin dehydration and wrinkles.

Since dermal fillers contain HA, they can help smoothen out skin wrinkles and fine lines. What’s more, according to Gentle Facial Aesthetics, they can also treat deep folds. Moreover, they can help reduce gauntness by adding volume to the skin.

Chemical Peels

The term chemical peel may sound painful, but for most people, it only causes slight stinging. In addition, applying the topical solution takes about 15 minutes on average per area. After that, the product works its way into the skin, exfoliating it and causing the topmost layer to peel off.

That peeling then reveals the fresher, younger-looking layer of skin underneath. In most cases, the new skin is smoother, more supple, and less wrinkly.

As such, chemical peels may help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. They may also help lighten acne scars, sun damage, and other minor scars. Moreover, they may help diminish skin redness and balance out uneven skin tone.

All those benefits have propelled chemical peels to become popular non-surgical facial procedures. So much so that experts estimate its global market to reach a value of $67 million by 2025.

Laser Skin Resurfacing

Laser skin resurfacing procedures use lasers to trigger changes in the skin. These changes depend on whether you’re getting ablative or non-ablative laser treatments.

With an ablative laser procedure, the laser removes the top layers of the skin. For small treatment areas, the skin will likely receive local anesthesia. However, you may need general anesthesia if the treatment area is large, such as the entire face.

Since ablative laser involves skin removal, it may be best for moderate to major cases of skin aging woes. For example, it may be more ideal for deeper wrinkles or more extensive scarring.

By contrast, a non-ablative laser treatment only uses a laser to heat tissues under the skin. This process triggers the production of new collagen. This makes it far less invasive than an ablative laser, but it only often works for minor wrinkles and lines.

Laser skin resurfacing has always been a sought-after non-surgical cosmetic procedure. For instance, almost a million of these procedures took place in the US in 2020 alone. This 2021, experts project even more people to undergo these laser treatments.

Non-Surgical Chin Reduction

Also called chin sculpting, non-surgical chin reduction involves only injectables. The formula contains synthesized deoxycholic acid, a prescription medication. It mimics one of the liver’s bile acids called chenodeoxycholic acid.

When administered below the chin, deoxycholic acid breaks down the fat cells there.

The body then absorbs the metabolized cells. From there, the body excretes it the same way as it does with other used-up fat cells.

Depending on the fullness and size of your chin, you may need two to four treatments. Each session, in turn, takes only about 20 to 40 minutes. There’s no downtime, but you may feel some discomfort and inflammation right after.
