3 Signs That You Will Be Approved for Disability

Are you applying for disability but are worrying about whether or not you’ll be approved? 6 out of every 10 disability applications will be denied by the SSA, so it’s important to make sure you have the factors it will take so that you will be approved for disability.

To learn more about the signs that you will be approved for disability, keep reading. In this guide, we will go over some key factors that will indicate that your disability claim will be approved so that you can have some peace of mind.

1. You Cannot Work

To be eligible for disability, you will need to prove that you can no longer perform any current or prior work. The SSA will consider factors such as your age, your work history, and your education to figure out if there is any other kinds of work you can perform. If you can perform other work, your application will likely be declined.

2. The SSA Recognizes Your Condition Disabling

To qualify for disability, the Social Security Administration requires that your condition will last or is expected to last, will last for 12 months or longer, or will result in death. Disability benefits are only allotted to those with long term conditions, so those with short term conditions will not be approved. The SSA has a Blue Book that you can consult, as it lists over 100 conditions that it considers disabling.

Each disability has certain criteria that the applicant must meet that they must prove with medical evidence. However, it’s important to note that even if you do meet the criteria, that will not guarantee that the SSA will decide that you are disabled enough to receive benefits. Yet, meeting the criteria based on your conditions does increase the likelihood that you are eligible for disability benefits.

It’s important to remember that having a disability that is recognized by the SSA is not enough to qualify for disability benefits. You must be able to prove that your disability interferes with your ability to work.

3. You Have Substantial Work Credits

To understand how social security disability works, it is helpful to think of it as an insurance program. Individuals pay into social security by working covered jobs that convert their earnings into work credits. The maximum amount of work credits that an individual can make a year is 4 credits.

In most cases, an individual will need at least 40 work credits to be eligible for social security disability. However, age can determine how many credits you will need to be able to receive disability benefits. For example, a younger candidate may require fewer work credits.

If you need assistance obtaining disability benefits, hire an SSDI lawyer to help you when applying.

Signs That You Will Be Approved for Disability

Obtaining disability benefits can be a frustrating process, but it’s important to make sure that you are aware of the signs that you will be approved for disability before applying. Be prepared for the disability application process by learning more about the qualifications that will be required of you.
