What Does A Chiropractor Do?

A chiropractor is a type of doctor that specializes in the spine or the nervous and musculoskeletal system. They use special tools to adjust or manipulate the spine, joints, and other parts of the body to encourage the body to work better and be in alignment. When all parts of the body are aligned, it improves.

Chiropractors see all sorts of patients, both adults, children, and seniors as long as they are healthy enough for chiropractic care. You can find them in private practice or working in clinics and hospitals.

A good chiropractor uses many different methods to bring alignment to the body, such as activators, soft-tissue therapy, stretches, bracing, and more. Chiropractors rarely, if ever, prescribe medications.

3 Reasons You Need to See A Chiropractor

Now that you know the basics of what a chiropractor does, let’s explore three reasons why you might want to visit one.

  1. Back Pain

One reason why people see a chiropractor is because of consistent back pain. Back pain is extremely common with up to 16 million people experiencing it each year.

There are numerous reasons for back pain from bad posture to injury. Whatever the reason for your back pain, a chiropractor can help examine your back and adjust it so you can have a better posture or help your body heal.

  1. Car Accidents

Whiplash is a common injury after car accidents. Unfortunately, it leaves terrible neck pain and difficulty with mobility because the whiplash causes your neck and head to jolt forward unnaturally.

Chiropractors see many patients with whiplash every year. They’re able to treat and diagnose it using a variety of methods, though it could take several appointments, weeks, or months to recover.

  1. Headaches

Persistent headaches also have many causes, most specifically due to problems in the neck or stress and tension. Most people take over-the-counter medication and function just fine, but chronic headaches should be addressed.

Chiropractors look at problems within the muscles in the neck and shoulders to see if they can help with headaches. They may teach you stretches and exercises you can do from home to lessen the tension.
