Sewer Drain Repair: What Kind of Repair Should You Choose

When the drainage pipes on your property start to fail, it’s time to call a plumber. Most people who call a plumber do so because of pipeline problems like corrosion, leakage, or breakage. Two possible fixes include traditional sewer drain repair and trenchless sewer drain repair

Traditional methods for repairing pipelines have stood the test of time, but there are some negatives. For instance, they require extensive excavation to unearth the pipes. This might mess up your landscaping – garden and lawn – or hard scaping – driveway and walkway.

Trenchless drain repair, however, will spare you reconstruction expenses. You’ll get the repair work you need without laying waste to your landscaping and hardscaping.

Here’s a closer look at two drain repair options followed by the pros and cons of each.

Traditional Drain Repair

The tried, tested, and proven drain repair method is the excavation method. It involves digging up the property to expose the damaged pipe so that it can be repaired or replaced. While it’s the simplest way to fix your drain, it’s also the most invasive as far as your property is concerned. Heavy equipment will be needed to dig trenches. Once the work is done, you will have to pay to restore your property back to what it looked like before all the digging and excavating.

Pros & Cons of Traditional Drain Repair

On the pros side, there are times when the traditional drain repair method is more ideal than a trenchless drain repair method. This includes cases where the damaged pipe is in too close a proximity to other utilities. Your best bet is to get the professional opinion of a licensed plumber. This will give you a better idea of what your best option is given where the problem is in your plumbing system and where that section of the plumbing system is buried on your property.

Trenchless Drain Repair

First of all, there are two kinds of trenchless repair options. Those include the pipe bursting method and the pipe lining method. While they are two distinct options, they both allow for minimal or no landscaping or hardscaping problems. For pipe lining, a flexible tube coated in epoxy resin is pushed through the pipe. When the resin solidifies, the damaged part of the pipe will be secure. For pipe bursting, a new pipe is inserted into the old one, which helps to strengthen it.

Pros & Cons of Trenchless Drain Repair

As for pros, a trenchless method will mean you won’t have to worry about landscaping or hardscaping. There could be some digging, but it won’t be extensive. You will also save money post-project since there’ll be no need to invest into fixing any digging-related issues. It’s also important to know that a trenchless drain repair option is faster than the traditional drain repair option. In fact, going with a trenchless option means the repair can often be done within one day. So you won’t have to worry about a project inconveniencing you and your family for days or weeks on end.

Are you in need of sewer drain repair? Your best bet is to contact a professional plumber who has experience in all of the different types of drain repair methods. After you book a service call, the plumber will assess the situation, make recommendations, and fix the problem. Whether you go with the traditional drain repair method or with a trenchless sewer repair method, you can get the help you need to fix your drainage system.
