Research and studies have confirmed that there’s a deep connection between sunlight and testosterone levels. UV light can actually enhance sexual desire (when testosterone levels rise). According to a few research reports, exposure to sunlight can boost p53 protein that lures men and women to have a stronger sex drive.

So, in this blog post, we’ll discuss how sunlight and testosterone levels are connected and also another safe alternative to boost testosterone levels.

How Sunlight Contributes to Testosterone Levels? A Scientific Approach

For many years it has been known that UV rays contribute to boosting testosterone levels in males. However, the entire mechanism of this was not known to the scientists. So, after vast research and studies, they’ve finally reached a conclusion to this mystery.

The research started by measuring the sex-steroid hormonal changes in mice when they were exposed to light wavelengths that ranged the wavelengths of the UV light. With consistent exposure to this light, scientists saw that the sex hormones drastically increased resulting in sexual activities among the mice.

An increase in the hypothalamus-pituitary-gonadal axis hormone resulted in the female mice having large ovaries and the testosterone levels among the male mice also increased which engaged them to have sexual intercourse.

To take the experiment to the next level, the scientists brought some genetically engineered mice that lack p53 skin protein. Now, the UV radiation triggers the pigmentation and DNA repair to protect their cells from any adverse effects of the rays.

The genetically engineered mice with p53 deficiency showed no signs of sexual drives when UV rays were exposed. This indicated that p53 protein is somehow connected to converting UV rays (sunlight) to sexual drives (horniness).

Later on, a similar experiment was also carried out on a group of people with the help of UVB phototherapy. When the experiment was completed, scientists observed that there has been a drastic increase in sexual drives and aggressions among males and females.

Bright Light Therapy Increases Testosterone and Sex Drives

Sexual dysfunction or libido is a common issue in the United States. Around 31% of men and 43% of women suffer from this problem. However, there are many reasons why people lose their sex drives, and it can be caused by drugs and alcohol consumption, low testosterone, medication overdose, and too little or excessive exercise.

Moreover, people who have psychological problems or stay stressed can suffer from depression and insomnia. These problems can act as a barrier to relationships.

When your body sees a lot of bright light, it makes a specific chemical known as luteinizing hormone (LH). The more LH is made in the body, the more testosterone is made.

Other animal studies show red light therapy affects Leydig cells, which are the body’s sperm-producing cells in the testicles.

Moreover, researchers found a lot of differences between those who took active light therapy treatment and the ones who didn’t. Patients who took this therapy had a drastic increase in testosterone levels compared to those who didn’t.

The possible reason for this is testosterone levels are at their highest in the morning, not having enough daylight can make them less high in the morning. So, exposure to red light can raise testosterone concentrations, which can lead to better libido. Several studies proved that red light therapy benefits include rise in testosterone levels which can lead to better libido. Both men and women with low libido tend to stay depressed so bright light therapy can help to ease the issues with depression which can gradually help with better sex drives.

Moreover, red light therapy can also be used for those who tend to stay tired or face issues with sex stamina. Yet, it’s always recommended that you consult with an expert before taking these therapies.

However, do remember that to see drastic changes and results, you need to be consistent with this therapy.
