How You Can Have More Space in Your Wardrobe: Top Tips

A chaotic or disorganised wardrobe is the last thing we want because not only does it affect our peace of mind – it also affects our wardrobe space. When your clothes and other items are all in a jumble within your wardrobe, it will be more challenging to find what you need, contributing to more wasted time. It all just adds up, doesn’t it? So if you’re tired of not having enough space in your wardrobe and would like to make a real change, here are some top tips so you can have more wardrobe space.

  • Do some spring cleaning

The first thing you should do is focus on spring cleaning. We all have our fair share of clutter – things we no longer need or use that would be better off thrown away or donated to a charity. Not many of us look forward to doing this, but it’s a must if you want to start right. You can make it easier on yourself by setting aside one morning or afternoon and organising your wardrobe items into categories such as items for sale, items for charities, items for recycling, seasonal items, and everyday items. You may be surprised at the sheer amount of clothes and other things you haven’t worn or used for years.

One tip is to organise your wardrobe in such a way that the items you use the most are readily accessible, like your favourite jeans, jumpers, and shirts. You can then hide all other items you don’t regularly use in the deeper parts of your wardrobe.

  • Take advantage of racks with coat hangers

If you haven’t already done so, it’s time to take advantage of racks with coat hangers. Doing this will instantly provide you with more space. But you can also try vertical hanging, especially if your wardrobe is tall and narrow. Use an S clip and metal or plastic chain so you can easily hang shirts, jumpers, and shorter clothing items.

Whilst we’re on the topic of hangers, they have another handy use: you can use them for hanging various accessories, such as hats, belts, and scarves. Just attach several shower rings to a hanger, and voila! You can finally store your accessories neatly without the need for chunky or bulky boxes, further freeing up your wardrobe space.

But there’s another solution that would very well last: having a fitted wardrobe. Fitted wardrobes (such as those from fitted wardrobes Leeds companies like My Fitted Bedroom) are great if you would like a fully organised closet with space for everything and everything in its place. Since it’s fitted, you can have it customised precisely according to your items.

  • Make use of the top portion of your wardrobe

Most of us don’t make enough use of the top portions of our wardrobes, and what you have is wasted space that gathers dust. If you want to utilise this space as well, all you have to do is buy some storage boxes or baskets and place them neatly on the space on top of your wardrobe, and this is where you can keep items like seasonal clothing, bed linen, towels, and so on. But, of course, if you go for a fitted wardrobe, every inch of space is covered as it can extend from floor to ceiling, so it’s worth thinking about for sure.
