This may sound similar to yoga.

The main difference, though, is that yoga focuses on a connection between the body and mind through a certain flow of movements.

Pilates focuses more on controlling movement and muscular endurance.

Pilates is designed to help improve flexibility, strengthen and tone muscles, enhance muscular control, stabilise your spine, and improve posture.

It can improve coordination and balance, as well as your concentration and awareness of your body.

Some people use pilates to lose weight, while others use it as a form of rehabilitation for joint and spinal injuries.

Keep in mind that though you may not see rapid weight loss, pilates can help you burn calories and be a great addition to your weight loss plan.

When doing pilates you may also get increased lung capacity and circulation due to the deep breathing involved.

The best part about pilates is that you rarely have to work to the point of exhaustion, break a sweat, or strain yourself.

Pilates is also a great way to get stress management and to relax.

When it comes to the benefits you get, it truly depends on what type of Pilates you are doing, the method, and equipment used — mat, classical, clinical, contemporary, or reformer, etc.
