Dengue fever is a viral disease that is transmitted through the bite of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. If not treated on time, it can become life-threatening. To protect yourself from dengue fever, you need to protect yourself from a mosquito bite.

In this article, we will tell you how you can protect yourself from a mosquito bite. If you have a high-grade fever with body aches, you must visit a general physician in Karachi.

What are the Symptoms of Dengue Fever?

The signs and symptoms of dengue fever are:

  • Fever
  • Intense headache
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting,
  • Skin rashes and
  • Mucosal bleeding
  • Body aches
  • Joint pains
  • Loss of appetite

Most patients with dengue fever recover within two weeks. However, if it does not get any better, you may need to get hospitalized. There is no such treatment for dengue fever, adequate fluid intake and bed rest are necessary.

How can you Protect Yourself and Others From Dengue Fever?

To protect yourself and your family, you need to:

  • Prevent mosquito bites
  • Prevent mosquitoes in your surrounding area
  • Avoid visiting areas prone to mosquitoes

For all these measures, you can exercise the following tips:

Prevent mosquito habitat

Bite of an Aedes mosquito causes dengue fever. They breed in stagnant water. Therefore you need to prevent it.

  • Close the water collection points with a fine mesh so that no mosquito lay their eggs over there.
  • Regularly clean and empty the water present in vases or plant pots.
  • Do not let any water-containing pot remain open where mosquitoes can lay their eggs.
  • Discard useless containers where mosquitoes may accumulate.
  • Make sure there is no stagnant water inside or outside your house.

Prevent Their Entrance

You must close all the entrances of mosquitoes into your home. Make sure there is no place through which they can come inside.

All the doors and windows should be properly netted.

Avoid keeping them open for a long time, especially where there is an outbreak of mosquitoes outside the house.

Inspect the gaps and air vents closely in your doors and windows. Since mosquitoes can enter through any tiny space, you need to keep an eye on every little space.

Sleep under an insect net. When you are awake, you can see and know about mosquito bites. But during sleeping, you hardly get to know about it. Therefore a net can give you protection against mosquito bites. You can also apply a mosquito killer on the net. With this technique, they can be killed. Otherwise, they will bite people present outside the netting.

Protect Your Skin

In the indoors, you can use an electric insect repellant to get rid of mosquitoes. When you go outdoors, you can apply insect repellent on the exposed skin. If you are going out in mosquito prevalent areas, wear full sleeves, socks, and full pants. Keep yourself covered as much as you can. It will help protect you from a mosquito bite. The more exposed your skin is, the more chances are increased for a mosquito bite.

Be Vigilant

If anyone in your family has got dengue fever, you need to be extra vigilant. Dengue can spread from the patient to another healthy person. When a mosquito bites the infected person and then bites the healthy person, it can transmit it to them too. Therefore you must protect yourself and other family members from mosquito bites if anyone in your family has got dengue fever.

The Bottom Line

Dengue fever can be life-threatening. Therefore you should not take its symptoms lightly. If you have any above-mentioned signs and symptoms, you should visit the healthcare provider soon. You can use oladoc.com to book your appointments.
