When setting up any rifle for an individual, there are many variables at play. From twist rate to choke to magazine capacity to barrel length, elements like this need to be considered when setting up rifles like the CVA 350 Legend.

You don’t have to be an expert sniper or ballistics expert to be concerned with this these little details, trigger weight is a factor that when set up correctly can improve your shooting no end.

So, What Is Trigger Weight & Why Does It Matter?

Whether setting up a CVA 350 Legend or indeed any rifle, trigger weight is one of the most important variables. For the uninitiated, trigger weight is essentially the amount of pressure you need to apply to the trigger before it fires. It plays an important role in accuracy.

Even if you’re just a weekend ‘plinker’ trigger weight matters, as it will determine exactly how accurate you are. Typically speaking, the heavier a trigger is, the harder it needs to be pulled,  meaning that it can end up disrupting the aim of the shot.

That’s why those in the know will lower the trigger weight, so only a small movement is required for the bullet to fire. You might not realize it, but pulling the trigger too hard can move not just the finger more, but also the hand and forearm. Small details matter and will be reflected in your groupings.

Adjusting Your CVA Legend

If you’ve got an older CVA 350 Legend, then you can just open up your manual and go to the page that’s concerned with trigger adjustment. This will show that you need to take the trigger housing out before you can adjust it, but for some, it’s outdated.

That’s because the newer versions can be adjusted without taking anything apart. Using the hexagon bolt just behind the trigger, you can use the included tool (that’s basically an allen key) to turn the weight to the desired level.

Out of the box, you’ll find it set to about 2.8 pounds, which is a little high. You’ll be turning the screw in a counter-clockwise direction to lower the trigger weight and clockwise to raise it. What you’ll typically find though, is there’s not much correlation between turns and weight change, so you’ll also need a trigger scale, like those made by Wheeler’s.

When using it, be sure to place the scale against the middle of the trigger or you’re going to get an inaccurate reading. We’d recommend 2-3 turns, followed by the use of the measure to slowly get the trigger set up perfectly.

It’s an Aspect That Can Improve Your CVA 350 Legend Use

The trigger weight is an aspect of rifle use that often gets forgotten, but it shouldn’t. It’s every bit as important as anything else. You could be finding that no matter what you do, your groupings aren’t as they should be, so why not consider checking the trigger weight?

By adjusting your trigger properly, you can at least eliminate it from your consideration when trying to improve your shooting. Safe in the knowledge that your trigger is set exactly right for you, you can identify the other elements that are driving down your accuracy.

So, don’t forget this vital aspect of shooting or your results may suffer. It could literally be the only things that’s holding you back.
