How to choose a repair service provider

It’s not for nothing that renovation is called a small natural disaster, because not every family can put up with chaos in their home. This creates a new need – to modernise your home as quickly as possible. While some people decide to take matters into their own hands, others turn to professionals for help. SV Projects experts agree that such an important task as renovation should be entrusted to specialists and give recommendations on choosing a service provider.

Where to start

First of all, you need to determine your needs. It often happens that one room needs a major overhaul, while the other only needs a cosmetic one. Therefore, you should first determine your own needs. The wishes of all family members should be taken into account. For example, children ‘grow out’ of their rooms. Therefore, you will have to completely redesign the apartment, change the children’s decor and furniture.

The next step is to set the budget. Experts point out a common mistake made by customers. Many choose a contractor who offers the lowest prices on the market. However, you should not fall into this trap, as the cost of the work will increase as the customer specifies more details. This is usually done by unscrupulous teams or ‘newcomers’ to the market. Their task is to get the client interested. And when the customer is already ‘hooked’, the cost of repairs starts to rise.

Signs of a reliable company

An important step in home renovation is to choose a reliable contractor. Today, large and small companies offer interior reorganisation services, and each promises a quality result. However, before signing an agreement, you should analyse the following criteria for the contractor:

  • Work permits. The company must operate in accordance with the law. To carry out electrical installation, laying communications and other complex works, you need to have an appropriate licence.
  • Long working hours. Of course, newcomers to the field cannot be completely ruled out. However, contractors with at least minimal work experience are more trustworthy.
  • Availability of a portfolio. In the age of digitalisation, almost every renovation studio has its own website. It is necessary to review examples of completed projects and understand whether they meet the customer’s requirements.
  • Transparent pricing of services. Contractors usually offer the customer a price list. Estimates from reliable companies are transparent, with a clear price for materials, work, and additional services.
  • The range of work performed by the contractor. Companies that offer turnkey repairs are more trustworthy. This means that a client can order a project of any complexity. There is no need to additionally involve other specialists, spending time and money on it.

It is better for the customer to be protected in the legal field, so they should conclude a contract with the contractor. It should outline the project deadlines, cost of work, and guarantees. If the company refuses to work under the contract, you should not use its services.

What should alert the client

If people turn to repair companies for help for the first time, they may encounter unscrupulous contractors. As already mentioned, too low prices attract customers’ attention. However, there is a market value, and quality services cannot be priced too low. It is worth avoiding teams that work on several sites at the same time and cannot accurately determine the timeframe for completing your order.

Of course, we are not talking about large companies that employ dozens of workers. Another factor that causes distrust among customers is the ‘multitasking’ of one specialist. The same person cannot perform the entire range of work: install communications, paint walls, and mount partitions. Of course, there are exceptions. However, such multidisciplinarity may indicate an insufficiently staffed workforce.

How to check a contractor’s reputation

One of the key factors in the quality of a repair team’s work is positive feedback from previous clients. It is worth searching on social media or thematic groups to see if anyone in the community recommends a contractor for the project. You can create a survey yourself and check which contractor is most trusted by consumers.

The same type of extremely positive comments should alert the customer, because it is impossible to please everyone. You need to review negative feedback and the contractor’s response to it. The ability to work with criticism, recognise and correct mistakes indicates the reliability of the studio. Home renovation does not begin with the work itself, but with painstaking preparation for it. However, the time spent looking for a reliable team is well worth it when you get the desired result.
