5 Reasons to Swap Your iPhone for an Android

While the iPhone used to be the undisputed leader with a commanding lead in the smartphone space, the legions of Android units flooding the marketplace mean Apple has some stiff competition.

Statista reports that Android had a market share of around 72.04% versus Apple’s iOS market share of about 27.49% in the fourth quarter of last year.

According to one source, the customer retention rates for Android and iPhone are, respectively, 89% to 91% and 85% to 88%. Regardless of which brand consumers choose, they tend to stick with the same smartphone brands for the long haul. That doesn’t mean, however, that consumers can’t be tempted to jump ship and check out the competition.

Here are five reasons to consider swapping your iPhone for an Android.

 You Want a Cheaper Smartphone

What happens when the time comes to replace your iPhone? One source says people tend to retain their iPhones for 24 to 48 months.

You might not want to pay the premium to buy a new one outright. And you may resist the option of getting a “free” or discounted iPhone if you’d rather not lock yourself into a costly multi-year contract with your provider. The iPhone premium is real — and that’s one reason to consider getting an Android instead.

While some Androids are as expensive as iPhones, there are tons of Android models available at lower price points. So, it’s possible to buy a brand-new Android for a reasonable price.

More Choices in Phones & Features

Another reason to consider trading in your iPhone for an Android smartphone is the range of options — and it’s not just the price point advantage either. When you go with an Android, you’ll see that many manufacturers offer phones with the Android operating system.

Meanwhile, Apple typically releases a small number of iPhone models annually. So, the pickings are slim if you like variety.

Expandable Storage & More Storage Options

One of the peculiarities of the iPhone is that it lacks built-in support for microSD cards. While it’s possible to use an adaptor to connect one to your iPhone, the fact that there’s no built-in capability might be disappointing. Switching to the Android brand means you can find many models that support microSD cards without needing a special adapter. So, it’ll be relatively easy to expand storage as required.

 Advanced Hardware Options

While iPhones are high-tech marvels, there are some hardware options you can only get with Android smartphones.

For instance, Androids are capable of 65W+ charging speeds, while the fastest-charging iPhone can’t come close to that speed. If fast charging is a key consideration for you, an Android might be the way to go.

 Charging Features

Yet another reason to consider joining the Android revolution is the reverse charging feature. You can, with this capability, use your Android to charge other devices. It’s not possible to do that using an iPhone.

In a pinch, reverse charging might save your bacon. It might be worth considering a switch from an iPhone to an Android.

The iOS vs. Android user experience pits the iOS’s focus on a streamlined user experience against the Android’s focus on extensive customization options. Users on both sides love their phones and don’t switch sides often.

While you might be attached to your iPhone, the time might come when a change is necessary. You won’t be able to transfer everything on your iPhone to your Android, but you can transfer some things. An iOS to Android transfer using the Switch to Android app or a cable will help.
