What is a Poker Hand?

Players have 5 cards in their hands. That set of 5 cards is known as a poker hand.

For example, you have 5, 6, queen, joker, and ace, so these five cards are your poker hand.

Here we are comparing the most common poker hands

As the game is ancient, every set of power hands has got its name. There can be a variety of sets like full house, four-of-a-kind, flush, etc.

Just like cards, these poker hands have different values too. You can make a comparison by looking at the card’s value. The hand with the highest pair is the strong one. If the pairs are equally strong, then you can compare the highest-ranking odd cards or the lowest-ranking odd cards. Let us see the best poker hand.

  1. Royal Flush: Royal flush is the best and strongest hand in poker. The consecutive cards including 10, J, Q, K, and A make it the winner’s hand.
  2. Straight flush: just like a royal flush, straight flush also includes consecutive numbers but the set of cards include number cards like 3, 4, 5, 6, 7. The higher odd cards can beat the straight flush.
  3. Four of a kind: as the name suggests the cards that look alike. This hand involves the same cards from all four suits. For example, the ace of all four suits (clubs, diamond, heart and spade).
  4. Full House: This hand everything, the same value cards in different suits and same rank cards in two different suits. In such a scenario if the player has 3 of a kind with the highest rank cards, this hand will be the winner.

  5. Flush: This hand has no particular order or set of cards. Flush has random cards and the highest-valued card wins the game. Unlike straight flush, you can have any combination like 7, 9, J, K, and 3.
  6. Straight: straight suggests the set of consecutive numbers but from more than one suit. The speciality of straight is defined by the presence of multiple suits but the numerical values are consecutive.
  7. Three of a kind: This hand contains three same cards in three different suits. The highest wins the game.
  8. Two pairs: you might get the idea by the name itself. Two pairs of hands contain a set of matching cards with the same rank.
  9. Pair: it contains cards of the same rank in different suits.
  10. High Card: hand with the lowest ranked cards and uneven cards. The highest card in such a case is the king of spades.

Conclusion

So, as per the list royal flush is the strongest power and high card is the weakest one Comparing most common poker hands is crucial for beginners because it can cause chaos. So, next time when you get your hand see if you have the strongest or the weakest hand. Learn poker basics from Pocket52 and try your luck in the game of poker.
