Dyslexia Defined

Dyslexia is defined as the difficulty and inability to identify and relate sounds and letters. It is caused by a defect in the brain area that processes language. Dyslexic people can learn to read with the help of professional and trained tutors.

Arabic for Dyslexics

Now like any other language, Arabic is also readable for dyslexic people. Let’s learn how to read Quranic Arabic in case someone is suffering from it.

Guidelines to Follow

For those facing this physical challenge, following guidelines may prove quite helpful to read Quran with correct pronunciation alongside learning through online Quran Courses:

1 . Start Easy and Slow

Adopt this approach with Simple Arabic words and sounds. For this purpose, one may choose the study material with single and closed Arabic syllable words to be read easily. Gradually increase the difficulty level to easily learn frequently used words of the Holy Quran.

Start by reading Tajweed; there are books available to learn Tajweed rules with the right pronunciation of the letters of the Holy Quran. Besides, one can also avail a lot of benefits by enrolling in Quran classes online. Both these learning sources will help you get a strong grip on Arabic and thereon help you to increase the reading to simple Quranic verses.

  1. Self Motivation

Try to remain focused and encourage yourself to read Quran. People having difficulty reading Arabic easily become discouraged if it gets too difficult to read it. However, self-motivation is the key. So, give yourself a sense of accomplishment. Every time you move on from Tajweed to words to phrases, feel that sense of accomplishment.

Remember, the double reward has been assured by the Holy Prophet (PBUH) for those who keep reading the Holy Quran despite facing difficulties in reading the Holy verses. So, take your motivation from this most truthful promise rather than feeling dejected. Quran classes online are always there to help you in your noble aim of learning the Holy Book.

  1. Upgrade Difficulty Level

Start and gradually increase the difficulty by AT-TAHQEEQ. In this technique, you learn Quran with tajweed. Then move on to AT-TADWEER where you read the Noble Quran at an average rate then move to AL-HADR i.e., learning to read the Holy Quran at a quicker pace.

  1. Breaks

Breaks are very important for dyslexic people. Reading Arabic can be quite difficult and the reader may feel low. So, giving yourself ample and more frequent breaks is an effective strategy. One should keep in mind that people with dyslexia need more time to regain their stamina for reading. Therefore,  they should not be pushed to follow strict timelines.

  1. Repeat and Revise

You must re-read the easy and familiar text that you find yourself to be relatively comfortable with. It will not only help you to increase your speed of reading but will also build up your accuracy and confidence while enabling you to read and go through Quranic verses easily. Also, you can read your favorite verses again and again until you find yourself learning and reading the same with much more ease.

  1. Group Learning

Get a reading partner. Reading alone can be a tiresome experience. To make reading easy, a conducive environment plays an important role. So, rather than learning alone get yourself someone who may help you create a learning environment. These can preferably be your siblings or friends with whom you feel comfortable. Otherwise, you may end up irritated or even angry.

This will not only impede your learning pace but also discourage you to leave trying to read Quran altogether. So in order to continue making progress towards the noblest activity of learning and reading the Holy Quran make reading a group activity. In the same context, Quran classes online can be very helpful whereby you will get an opportunity to learn the Holy Book under an experienced Holy Quran tutor.

  1. Expert Guidance

You are not fluent in Arabic and have a different mother tongue. Whereas Arabic as a language can be difficult to understand and read if you are trying for the first time. Classes online means expert guidance is a must to learn Arabic grammar and language rules.  It will be highly advantageous if the teacher has the expertise to help dyslexic people. They will ensure that you get maximum benefit with the least amount of burden.

  1. Mushaf Selection

To get the right format Mushaf is a must recommendation. Holy Quran with Tajweed rules is available in various formats. You may get a Mushaf in big font size with color codes for Tajweed rules. So, try getting yourself the Holy Quran in a form that can be easy for you to read. Here are a few specifications:

  1. Size of handwriting
    b. Spaces between lines
    c. Colors used for different verses
    d. The proper page format and color
    e. Words are written in an easily readable format

All these things are important to make sure your reading experience remains easy. It will further ensure no stress to your eyes or mind. Selection of the right format Mushaf makes it easy to learn Holy Quran.

  1. Technology Solutions

Get benefit from the latest technology tools to read and learn the Holy Book. You may use the below technologies:

  1. Text to speech software: This will help you in clearly understanding the written material.
  2. Reading pens: These pens produce sounds and syllabi. These are specially designing to help you understand how to pronounce Arabic to learn it easily.
  3. Audio Quran: If you still find yourself struggling to read Quran, then try listening to it. Listen once or twice, then repeat the words and verses. It’s doable with online available audio Quran.

Struggling to read and learn the Holy Quran? Remember that you are going to get double the reward for every letter and for every effort. So, keep trying your best and Insha Allah your destination is so close by. Every word of the Holy Quran has its own power and is beneficial for a Muslim by mental, spiritual, and physical health.
